One trick to make long pages of text more interesting, when you’re writing your memoir

I often use this method to break up long chunks of text when I’m writing memoirs for people. Why? To make it more interesting for readers.
I call them subheadings. And I write them in bold.

You can add these throughout your story to create some variety for the reader and give them an enticing reason to keep reading.
While this isn’t always necessary, it can be a way to break down the page for the reader, while promising the next interesting part of the story. It can be a way to keep hooking them back in.

This is a subheading.
This is different from a new chapter, you’d use a few subheadings within each chapter.
They’re kind of like mini-chapters.
It’s always good to think about how your story will come across to your reader. And this is one way to take care of them.

The night I crashed my grandmother’s car into her duck pond.

That was another subheading. Would it make you want to read more?

Most awesome importantly: just keep writing! Why? Because your life story is someone else’s history.

PS
If you’d like someone to go through your story and give you some feedback and coaching about subheadings and other challenges you’re having, this month you can get that service for free as part of a bonus Editing Package I’m offering to people who join my online course Write Your Memoir. This package offers four hours of proofreading and editing and is valued at over $400. You’d need to use it within one year, so it would be an incentive to get writing! We are only offering 10 of these, so get in quick while they’re still available! This could be the thing to finally get you working on your story. Find out more about Write Your Memoir here.
