I popped into a cafe recently for my favourite salmon and cream cheese tart and the lady at the counter said she’d just been thinking of me.
“I’ve been wanting to ask you to help me with my great aunty’s story for ages,” she said as she served me.
“But I can’t now, because we’ve lost her, and all her stories, our family stories.”
“Yes,” I said, “so many people leave it until their final years to even think about writing their stories, and by then it can be really hard.”
“Tell them to start now,” she said with a steely look my way, “before it’s too late.
So here I am telling you.
Start now my friends. It always takes longer than you think it will and there’s a whole lifetime of memories in you that will come into focus once you dive in.
It doesn’t need to be perfect.
Just start writing.

It can be a daunting prospect though. People can feel overwhelmed with information and struggle to know where to start, let alone how to finish their story.
I would love to help you. In celebration of the New Year I’ve created the Great Senior Kiwi Write up. This is a free, three part video series designed to help you:
- Get all those thoughts about your story out of your mind and onto paper.
- Give them some structure so you can build the bones of your book.
- And help you begin your story.
All you need to do is sign up to my newsletter below and starting February 8th, I’ll start sending you three short videos, with easy exercises, to get you on the right track.
It is possible to write your story and I’m going to show you how.
