That’s me hanging out in the hills of the Rāmeka Valley, Golden Bay, which is incidentally the area I’m setting the fictional novel I’m writing.
The Rāmeka is filled with history and is set up for adventure, risk and intrigue. These days it’s a popular mountain biking destination and is also a carbon sink, with its acres of forest.
It’s such a pleasure to hang out in the forest there with my dog Tom and each time I go there, the creative writing ideas spark within me.
I can just imagine the people who used to ride their horses along the old tracks, they would have been travelling in of out of Golden Bay, on a long, hilly, treacherous journey.
Writing your life story, memoir or family history can sometimes feel like a long and treacherous journey too!
There’s research to do, there are many stories to write and sometimes it can feel like it will never end!
But if you keep going, one line at a time, you will eventually finish your first draft and it will be proof read by someone and then it’s time to do something very cool: design your book cover.
