Bring your senses into your memoir

Kia Ora 👋

This week I want to talk about helping readers understand what you experienced, by encouraging you to share what you sensed, in your story.

What did you see, hear, feel, smell and taste?

When you can bring in even one of your senses, do, because it brings so much more depth of understanding to your reader.

It will take them back into those moments with you, and it will bring your story to life for them.

What did the heat feel like on your skin? How cold was it, really? What did that cake smell like as it cooked? How beautiful was that music? How jarring was that bang? How did your body feel as you hit the water? How did you feel as you lost control of your bike? Or hugged that warm body? Or saw that loved one again?

These beautiful details, so easy to overlook, give your story soul.

Have a go and send me what you write, I’d love to read it. I promise I’ll reply if you do.

Write on ❤️
