Iām wearing my winter attire: gumboots and a Swanndri.
This week I want to talk about your unique voice as a writer. We all have one and you are most certainly no exception.
When you write your story, I invite you to relax and be yourself. Write as if youāre on the couch, cradling your favourite drink, and sharing your story with your loved ones (who are of course, listening attentively).
Use the words and tone of voice you always use, not ones you think āa writerā should use.
I had a memoir client a while back who grew up in Italy and moved to New Zealand in his twenties. He felt sooo un-confident about writing his memoir because of English being his second-language.
But the thing was, his (very much grown up) children were emphatic that they wanted to preserve his voice, including all the special ways he said things. So thatās how we wrote his book.
And I feel really good knowing that long after heās gone his family will read his life story and hear his voice.
More about writing in your unique in my blog.
Keep writing, your story is worth it.

PS if youād like some company as you write, an easy way you can do that is via my course Write Your Memoir. And those who are able to make it are invited to join me in TÄkaka for a day of writing mid-June. After that weāll meet each season.
PPS if youād ever like some writing inspiration in video form, Iām always uploading free content to my YouTube channel, right here.
