Kia ora!
People often ask me if they have to write their memoir life story or family history from beginning to end. And my answer is: nope!
You could start mid-point, like one of my memoir students is, at a moment when, on one snowy day in a Kiwi national park, she and her friends thought they were going to die.
You could start today, then shoot back to the beginning.
You could start waaaay back with your earliest known ancestor, then move back to now, and then step back to the beginning of your life.
The important thing is that you take your reader by the hand and guide them along the pathway of your story. Make sure they don’t get lost.
And most importantly, keep at it, whether you’re researching or writing. Keep going. One day you’ll be so glad you did.

PS if you’d like to take my hand and learn to write your memoir, life story or family history, check out my online course Write Your Memoir. I’ll be in Wellington to meet students in person this November, and our Golden Bay students are meeting back up in September.
