How are you today?
Recently in our Write Your Memoir Facebook group, someone said they’d had to step away from their story, because it had become too much for them, it was bringing up an overwhelming grief. They took some time out and got out of the house for a while.
And I’m so glad they did.
I’d rather you take care of yourself as you write. Take lots of breaks. Get outside. Have adventures. Chip away at it around your life and stay balanced.
Somedays you might feel utterly inspired and not want to stop, other days you might not want to touch it. That’s ok.
The only thing is that, if your story really is important to you, I hope you pay attention to those whispers of inspiration that occasionally well up in you, and do that one-next-thing.
Whether you’re gathering information, scribbling a plan, or writing, just keep going. And one day, you’ll finish your story.

PS – I’m looking forward to meeting with students of my course Write Your Memoir who live in Golden Bay this weekend. I’m also busy planning a trip to November to spend a day with students there! Here’s a blog about that one-day workshop, in Johnsonville.
