How to bring the people in your story to life

Kia ora memoir writer,

Do you ever want to bring more personality and life into your story? For some people it’s easier to talk about facts, figures and dates, than to describe people.

Here’s a trick you can use – tell your reader one to three things about each person you write about that set them apart from others.

For example, my Gran Joyce liked to create and wear extravagant, colourful hats, she was a secret water diviner and she would occasionally eat fresh seaweed off Para Para beach just to shock us.

It’s no wonder I turned out this way. Ha ha!

How about your people? What special features do you remember about them? How did they speak? Walk? Cook? Drive? Sing? Parent? Laugh?

It’s those little details that are going to bring them to life.

So share them in your book

Write on,

Charlotte
