Kia ora,
Today some students of my memoir course gathered to share their writing.
I think I cried through half of it.
Each memoir writer shared around half a page and received feedback.
Derek read half a page about his trip to Mongolia, sharing his perceptions of the landscape and history.
Mike read the prologue to the first of his three books, reading as young Mike who was about to lose his beloved dog and become a Ten Pound Pom, moving to Aussie.
Pania read her story of being caught in the fallout of a family tragedy, and paying for it dearly throughout her childhood.
Each story moved me.
I was reminded that memoirs are both healing to write, and healing to read.
Our next online Memoir Sharing Session is Saturday May 24 from 2pm – 3pm. Students of my online course Write Your Memoir are welcome to join, and bring half a page to share.
If you haven’t joined my online memoir course and would like to, now’s a great time, as it’s on special in honour of Mother’s Day. You can join today, for a surprisingly low price.
And if it’s not for you, that’s ok too.
Remember: one day someone out there is going to read your story and thank you for writing it.
Because your story, is their history. So keep writing.
