Do I need to have done great things to write my memoir or life story?

How’s life this week? I have some exciting writing projects on the go, one of which I’m going to tell you about soon (it’s big, for me anyway!).

Recently someone asked me why people would bother writing their memoir if they hadn’t done something deeply impressive. I had a lot to say in response.

The thing is, your story will one day become your family’s history. Just because you didn’t make the front page of the newspaper, it doesn’t mean your story won’t be fascinating to someone, one day.

And right now, if you’re feeling the stirrings, the need to start writing, I say listen to that. You’re feeling that for a reason.

You never know which of your descendants might one day read your book seeking answers about who they are and who they come from.

The older I get, the more I care about history.

So trust in your desire to write your story, and write!

PS this week my 40 + lesson, year long memoir programme Write Your Memoir is on special! You get 20% off, plus I’ll read through the first chapter of your book and give you my honest feedback (two types, in fact, critical – listing the things I think you need to work on – and encouraging, explaining how I felt in response to your story). This offer is available until Easter Friday, so if you’ve been thinking of joining, now’s a good time
