Keep at it, memoir writer

Well hello to you dear writer,

A warm January welcome to those of you who are new to my weekly email.

This is Charlotte, writer/writing teacher/musician/mum/wife, reaching out to you from beautiful Golden Bay, New Zealand.

The first thing I want to say to you this year is: keep going. No matter where you’re at in your memoir writing journey. Keep writing, or researching, or organising until you’re finished.

Because if you can keep chipping away at this, then one day, you will hold your finished book in your hands.

And trust me: that is a GOOD feeling.

Imagine future generations also holding your book in their hands, and deeply appreciating you for writing it, because they can learn who and where they came from.

There will be days when you feel utterly lost. There will be days when you think everything you write is terrible.

And there will be other moments when you look up from your work to find you’ve come a lot further than you thought you would, and it’s actually quite readable.

Each are normal parts of the writing journey, depending on your mood and the subject!

So keep at it because your story matters.

Charlotte x

PS if you’d like to access my full Write Your Memoir course, you can check it out here. It’s available for the current cost until February, when the price will go up.

  1. I stopped writing after I had more than 50000 words for NaNoWriMo 2023. It was worth it, but I was drained. I think I might maybe tackle it again later in January. This was all first draft. A lot of rereading and changing need to be done now.

    1. Hello 👋 seems that you’ve put a lot of work into it. It’s good to put your draft down for some time after you’ve worked on it, so you can return to it with a fresh perspective. Well done and keep writing!
