You never know who will read your book one day, or the ways your story will impact peoples’ lives.
Mike, a student on my memoir course who wrote a book called A Boy’s Journey has discovered a huge community of people on Facebook who, like him, were ‘10 pound poms.’ His book has sparked some conversations!
He and his family emigrated from England to Australia in the late 1950s. It was not an easy transition for he and his family, but they built a better life, eventually settling in Christchurch.
Around a third of a million children journeyed from England to Australia or New Zealand between 1945 and 1972. His journey is typical of a generation of people who are grandparents, aunties and uncles today.
Just imagine the many hundreds of thousands of people who can relate or connect to Mike’s story. And the same might apply to yours. Your story might offer links back into family history, including for people who don’t even exist yet, but may one day have questions that only you can answer.
So keep writing, dear one. One page at a time. Keep writing.
