Records of change

Kia ora 👋

How’s your memoir coming along this week?

Are you referring to any old diaries or letters as you write? Those types of records can be incredibly useful. A student on my memoir course has unearthed some diaries she didn’t know she had until recently. They’re from a time when she left Europe to begin a new life in New Zealand. She told us she’s astounded by the memories she’s unearthing. She’d forgotten how she felt about it and what she went through.

Do you have some old records you can use to build your story, and to bring it to life? I’d love to hear about them.

I’m in the process of taking over my local newspaper the GB Weekly. The outgoing owner/editor is retiring and invited me to buy it. I said yes, and a whole new adventure began.

It’s been a roller coaster and I’ve been documenting it. You can watch the first video about it here:

And of course, the most important thing is that you write your story, regardless of where it comes from.

Keep writing lovely,

Charlotte x
